For a period of nearly five years, the streets of downtown St. John's became a hunting ground. Gary Young - a physically powerful man who worked as a labourer in his family's business - prowled the streets, usually on weekends, looking for women. And sex. Violent sex. During that time - from 1985 to the time he was arrested in 1990 - he brutalized at least seven women; and the authorities believe there were others who didn't come forward to criminal charges. Dangerous Offender by Bob Woolridge is the story of those savage attacks; of the prolonged investigation that ultimately led to Gary Young's capture and the devastating impact on the victims. It is the story, too, of the way in which many victims of crime are treated within the judicial system in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
