Memoirs of a Blue Puttee by Jean Edwards Stacey
July 1, celebrated as Canada Day, is a day of mixed emotions for the people of Newfoundland and Labrrador. The joy of a nation-wide party is tinged with sadness as people recall the men of the Newfoundland Regiment who died in a First World War battle at Beaumont Hamel on July 1, 1916. This work is based on the memoirs of Anthony James Stacey, a Blue Puttee (one of the first five hundred volunteers in the Newfoundland Regiment)and a veteran of the First World War.
