About Newfoundland and Labrador


Newfoundland is the island portion of the Canadian Province of Newfoundland and Labrador while Labrador is the mainland portion adjoining the Province of Quebec. Because the province was named Newfoundland until 2001 when the name was changed to Newfoundland and Labrador, the name Newfoundland is still used much of the time which is the case for this web site. Many Newfoundlanders are so accustomed to the use of terms such as Newfoundland jokes, Newfoundland Screech, and the Newfoundland government that it is difficult to break the habit.
