Newfoundland Cookbook
Newfoundland and Labrador kitchens are famous for recipes that are designed for hard working families with big appetites. The emphasis has been on tasty but nutritious food that would satisfy the most discriminating tastes.

Take a look at our collection of Newfoundland cookbooks further down this page.

Our books also offer a number of topics on food as well as recipes. For example Dr. Ho discusses the benefits of Omega 3, while some of the books of tantalizing Newfoundland recipes include cooking guides, Newfoundland scenes, as well as stories related to Newfoundland life.

The hard working Newfoundland fisherman enjoyed his fish and brewis at home or in the fishing boat. The meal can be prepared with salt-dried or fresh codfish right out of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Salt beef and vegetables, also called Jiggs Dinner, is another traditional Newfoundland recipe that is still popular in Newfoundland and Labrador. This was a once-a-week meal for the Newfoundland and Labrador family not too long ago; with the peas pudding, of course, and sometimes with a blueberry or partridge berry pudding as well.

Regardless of the main meal for the day the Newfoundland and Labrador kitchen maintained a batch of white, brown, or raisin home-made bread. Bread making skills passed on over the generations still results in the best bread available anywhere.

Toutons and boiled molasses for breakfast is another traditional Newfoundland recipe. This meal along with fish and brewis with fat pork scrunchions for dinner may not be considered health food but it sure is tasty.
